Shop your Shape ~ Straight

Today's Shop your Shape series will focus on the Straight figure. Having a straight figure has it's perks just like any other shape. Straight figures don't have to worry about weight gain in all the wrong places. Contrarily so, they actually are often tasked with adding curves to their frames. The key to dressing a straight figure is balancing out the top and bottom while accentuating your waistline.

Celebs with a straight figure would be none other than Fergie, Madonna, Thandie Newton and Paris Hilton. Now while Fergie would like to think she has lovely lady lumps, truth is she is pretty much straight and there is nothing wrong with that. You can always add weight or curves to a straight figure by way of weight training and fashion!

Over 45% of American women have a Straight body shape (sometimes called rectangle or ruler). This means that your hips and bust are balanced and your waist is not very defined. You probably have a bottom that is more flat than round. You tend to gain weight in your torso first and then your upper thighs and arms. Your lower legs are always shapely and one of your best assets.

To create curves with fashion you can wear a form fitting dress and cinch the waist with a darker or wide belt.

Create the illusion of volume by wearing full dresses or skirts.

Wearing full legged pants or jeans also helps add weight to your frame.

When I was a young girl I believe my body was straight figured. I wanted so desperately to gain weight and it wasn't until my mid twenties that my twinkie binges started to pay off. Now that I'm in my 30s I'm running miles to take that weight back down to a more desirable level. smh Isn't life funny that way, you never know how lucky you are in the position you stand until you are placed on the other side of the fence.

Tomorrow's feature will focus on Plus Sized shapes so stay tuned!
