Arnold Exposed

According to the LA Times, Arnold Schwarzenegger cheated on his wife, Maria Shriver and separated after a marriage of 25 years. Arnold confessed to his wife after leaving the Governor's office to fathering a child with a staff member, who worked in their home for 20 years and gave birth nearly a decade ago.

"I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologized to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry."
"I ask that the media respect my wife and children through this extremely difficult time," the statement concluded. "While I deserve your attention and criticism, my family does not."

I'm writing this blog post not because I care one bit about their marriage but to ask to what does a celebrity owe the public? Yes it is true that most celebs gain fame and fortune at the expense of their customers, the public at large, but at what point does the privacy veil need to be worn? Do we need to know every minuscule detail about their private lives just because we help to fund their lavish lifestyles? What's the point in doing an interview where you expose the reasoning behind your marital woes and then asking the public to 'respect' your privacy?

At the end of the day Shriver isn't the first nor the last woman to be publicly humiliated by her husbands lack of decency and will power to keep his snake in it's cage. How embarrassing! At least he didn't sleep with over 10 women like Tiger Wood's. I wonder if it's more hurtful to have him cheat with one woman and father a child for her, to fall in love with someone else or to have him go on a sex spree like Woods sleeping with any woman he could get his hands on. Something also must be said about the staff member who has worked for the family for 20 years. Is there no shame! I'm sure Shriver wanted to wring her neck too just as much as Arnold's. I mean it's not like she didn't know he was married.

So what are your thoughts? As a consumer and fan of a celeb do you think it's your right and privilege to know the intimate details about your idol's life or is this just like the icing on the cake? I don't know why but for the life of me I can't fathom why people are shocked and appalled when things like this occur to a famous person. It's not like they took a vow to the public to never ever in life do anything to shame themselves, so what's the big deal?
