Summer Time Skin

This year summer starts officially on June 21st. Most beauty gurus will advise you to switch your skin care regimen and products for the new hot season. I wear makeup on a daily basis but since it is a sweltering 90 degrees here in GA wearing foundation can feel like a bit much in this heat. I decided to switch from my MAC Studio Fix SPF 15 liquid to Revlon's  Color stay. I love Revlon's accessibility and most of all price. I have used this liquid foundation in the past and this line has a wide array of brown and tan hues to choose from. Kudos to Revlon for recognizing that women of color come in a lot of colors!  Right now with my slightly tanned skin I am the Caramel color. In MAC I wear NC 45. I have been trying to stay out of the sun to avoid getting unsightly tan lines but it is inevitable. I will just have to bronze my chest and shoulders for my wedding day because I already see stripes smh. I love the sun kissed look on the model above and her abs! Speaking of sun kissed I also took out my Wet & Wild bronzer for the sunny season. I love wearing bronzer this time of year, it just gives you a healthy glow perfect for a day out or on the beach. The only other thing I need to beef up in my skincare routine is WATER and lots of it.
If you wish to still have a made up look without wearing foundation you can simply choose a tinted moisturizer with SPF. I'm also loving the very peachy and golden pink blushes for Spring/Summer and I've been reaching for my MAC studio fix as a fresher for my skin lately too, I love that stuff!

What are some things you do differently for your skin during the warmer months.

Sidenote
I need to find a gorg floppy hat for the beach this summer! I hope I can pick one up for the low low American Apparel is tripping on their prices lol 45 bucks psssssh please ☺

Through rose colored glasses

Just some makeup looks I want to try my hand at this Spring. Enjoy! ♥

My MAC Bridal look & Review

Yesterday I had my MAC make over in order for me to have the experience of learning a Smokey Eye look via a professional MUA. At first I wasn't jumping over the moon about the end result but I actually like the look now; however I still wish to personalize it a bit more with a lighter color in the inner tear duct and a lighter highlight underneath my brow. I also want to go with Shy Girl lipstick and Viva Glam Gaga (pink) on top as opposed to the nude look of the Viva Glam Gaga shown in the picture above. Check out my video review of my experience below.

Products used:

MAC Select SPF 15 foundation NC 45

NC 45 Select Cover up (concealer)

Retrospec

Quite Natural

Viva Glam Gaga

Spiked brow pencil (brown color)

After I filmed this video I decided to wash my face and see if I could recreate it. Here is my take on the Smokey Eye. I plan to practice more until I get it down to perfection.

Beat ya Face

I'm excited as tomorrow I have an appointment at the MAC counter to sit with a professional makeup artist to get my bridal look in order. I have been watching hours upon hours of YT videos over the past year since we got engaged to learn some make up application skills. I have my brushes, lashes, shadows, blush and primer galore but now I want a pro to teach me step by step how to achieve my desired look. One of my favorite MUA on Youtube is Tialuv29, check her out she is awesome. She did a Beyonce' inspired look that I adore. I'm leaning towards a light colored smokie eye look for my wedding day as it is in the evening but I still don't want to wear a hard black or dark hue on my lids. I initially ventured to MAC for some more concealer and was told about their promo on Friday to have a MUA 'beat ya face' with a purchase of $50 so I figured why not. I know MAC products are not the best ones on the market but I love their concealer, it is a perfect match for my complexion and I often wear it as a foundation with not much else on other than mascara. Just a few dabs of coverage and I'm done. ☺ I plan to take pictures of my end result, hopefully I will like it. The last time I had a pro do my face was for prom and she put so much make up on that my own mother didn't recognize me, not exactly the look I'm going for! I adore the Indian/Asian bridal looks so hopefully we can accomplish that look, maybe I should bring a picture. Wish me luck ♥

Has your makeup expired?

Throughout the year while acquiring makeup, it is easy to forget when you purchased that favorite lippy, mascara tube or foundation. Sometimes the makeup will tell you its old by way of a fowl or weird odor, this is most known to happen with old foundation. Here are some expiration markers to remind you of makeup expiration dates.

My advice would be to purchase some of those circle or dot stickers and write the date you opened the product on it and underneath the expiry, that way you know when to toss it.

Expiration dates — beginning from the time you first open these products Powders and Shadows: 2 years

Cream shadows: 12 to 18 months

Foundation: 1 year

Lipstick & lipliner: 1 year

Mascara & eyeliners: 3 months

Makeup brushes: Clean weekly

Makeup sponges: Replace weekly, or when sponge becomes soiled

Tips for keeping your skin clean and your makeup fresh

— Smell your cosmetics; if they have an unusual odor, they may contain bacteria and should be discarded.

— Never share makeup with your friends, especially things like lipstick, eye pencils, mascara etc. You can risk transferring unwanted bacteria leading to unsightly infection.

— Always make sure that products are closed tight and stored out of sunlight, as this can destroy the preservatives.

— Don't use any eye products if you currently have an eye infection.

— Never add any liquids to products unless directed by the manufacturer.

— If there are any changes in color and texture, dispose of the product immediately.

— Avoid sampling makeup at department stores when possible. If you do test, never apply directly from the makeup. Instead, use a clean, disposable applicator (i.e., cotton swab, sponge) to apply cosmetics.

I ♥ Lipstick

In case you haven't guessed yet by the blog title I am a huge fan of lipstick, it just gives the face that little umph it may need when you want some color but don't want to look overly done. The above picture of Eva is a prime example. She does have on eyeshadow and mascara, perhaps some bronzer but the focal point of her face is definitely those lavender lips. I recently purchased a purple lippy from Covergirl worn in my pictures this week although it appears pinkish instead of the eggplant purple I thought it would be. What is your favorite shade of lipstick?

Everyday Makeup Look on the go

I was super duper tired today while awaiting checkout at the hotel and looked even more tired than I felt. I decided to do a quickie everyday makeup look on the go so I don't look like death warmed up when Jason picks me up tonight ;0)

Check out my video below and excuse the rap music ;0)

Men and Makeup

She looks gorgeous!

I'm writing today as a rant & response to a blog post by http://addictedtoallthingspretty.com/ where a guy asked her
"How do I tell my girlfriend that she wears too much makeup?"

My thoughts on the subject are simple. I don't think men should concern themselves with such matters, to me that is overstepping your boundaries as a man. What's more important than the woman wearing makeup is the woman having healthy skin. If you are to care about anything, that should be of concern not that she is putting on lipstick or wearing rouge. Of course, if she is a newbie to makeup and is looking more clownish and less beaute than perhaps you can suggest she watch some of my favorite makeup guru's on Youtube like NiniLuvsmakeup, MakeupadiktDeziredBeauty or XXTheIslandBeautyXX

I personally wear a full face, meaning foundation, mascara, blush and some type of lipgloss, balm or stick just about everyday. There are days like today where I will just dab on a bit of concealer and go about my day as so called 'natural'. I hardly ever walk out the house without something on, at least some type of tinted moisturizer because to me that is just apart of me being the woman I am. I like to look made up. I've come to love eyelashes and bold lipsticks over the past year as well. I often practice and research on youtube various eyeshadow combinations and makeup looks on the weekend. This is definitely my favorite artistic muse. I look at makeup like art and I enjoy it tremendously ;0)

Now here is Kim K with a full face of makeup on the left and a bare or natural face on the right. Which picture do you find is most appealing to men? I've heard both viewpoints where some men like the bare and natural beauty look on their women and other's like their woman to look doll faced and done up.

If you wear makeup often and are in a relationship what are the opinions of the man in your life?

Does he like your makeup look or does he wish you wore less and went bare faced more often? My man prefers my face to be bare, he thinks I'm more beautiful without it but I personally love makeup so he can enjoy my natural beauty while we are in the confines of the home ;0) Nah I will indulge him and wear no makeup more often o-0 booooooooooo lol

I've heard it all from men saying makeup gets all over their clothes when kissing a woman, it gets on the covers (who is going to bed with all that on their face?) to them just preferring a more natural beauty on their arm. I don't get when men say they prefer natural beauty yet the woman on their arm has a head FULL of fake hair? Where is the logic in that? Anyway as a woman who wears makeup, I wouldn't ever suggest you telling your woman that you don't like it when she wears xyz, what you should do is compliment her and tell her how beautiful she looks without it. She is more likely to appease you and go natural more often when hearing compliments as opposed to criticism based off of your personal preferences.

Sometimes I am baffled by all that women 'have' to do in order to appease their men. What are men doing physically for women to groom themselves for our visual satisfaction? I personally prefer that each person in the relationship allow the other party to comfortably express themselves as they see fit. This way each person exudes their utmost confidence and can equally love and embrace their partner for being themselves. = Everyone being a happy camper ;0)

What are your thoughts on the matter?

Purple Lippy Hot or NOT?

I'm sure you've heard of the purple lipstick trend that hit the streets a few months back just in time for Spring. Will you be rocking a pair of purple puckers or do you think this color should remain on grapes?

The Macdaddy of makeup

Make-up Art Cosmetics

MAC Cosmetics Inc. (Make-up Art Cosmetics) was started in Canada by Frank Toskan and Frank Angelo in 1984. Angelo was the original founder. Toskan was a make-up artist and photographer, and Angelo was the owner of a hair salon chain. Since they were both involved in fashion photography, they both quickly recognized the need for more durable, versatile and creative cosmetics products that could handle the demands of professional photo shoots.

Always on the cutting edge with their engagement of celebrity endorsements, awareness of social and cultural diversity, and involvement in charitable social initiatives, MAC Cosmetics has now grown to become one of the most popular and influential cosmetics companies in the world.

EstƩe Lauder gained controlling interest in MAC in 1994 and finalized their acquisition of the company by 1998. The MAC AIDS fund was also introduced in 1994.

The year before EstƩe Lauder acquired the company (1997), Frank Angelo passed away from complications during a surgery. A couple years later, Toskan left MAC and founded another AIDS Charity, with his brother-in-law, Vic Casale. Casale was also one of the original Chemists at MAC.

The new MAC owners have continued on with the MAC AIDS Fund, a program where the sale of MAC’s Viva Glam products provide help men, women and children living with HIV and AIDS. MAC donates 100% of the selling price of these Viva Glam products to the cause. As of 2008, the fund had raised over $128 million dollars.

MAC also features additional programs for cruelty-free makeup products, child abuse and protection of the environment through recycling. MAC is definitely one of the leading cosmetics companies when it comes to social and environmental awareness.

When it comes to contemporary cosmetics, MAC is very likely the most sought after cosmetics line. Within the MAC Cosmetics line are some of the most desired products on the market. MAC also provides their customers with a client-focused philosophy which contributes to growing number of clients who adore MAC products.

Color palettes have been developed by MAC Cosmetics for every possible shade, tone and type of skin. Well over 160 shades of lipstick and 150 shades of eyeshadow have been created to date with numerous finishes. In addition, MAC consistently releases fresh, new, limited edition collections.

MAC’s newly developed skincare line (2007) also meets the needs of diverse skin types. MAC also focuses on offering products to cater to the innovation and creative needs of professional makeup-artists and imaginative customers.

MAC doesn’t use advertising to drive their sales. They don’t try to talk people into buying their cosmetics. Instead, most of their sales are driven by their celebrity endorsements (professional makeup artists, models and celebrities alike), constant word-of-mouth promotion and continued loyalty of current clients. The brand is sold in over 50 countries around the world.

Makeup artists and sales people are hired based on artistic talent. MAC Makeup Artists are an integral part of the MAC philosophy. MAC’s co-founder, Frank Toskan, said, “I don’t have the luxury of communicating with my clients, so therefore my salespeople are the link between my philosophy and their customers.” The company doesn’t train their employees to pressure the customer into a purchase. Instead, they are encouraged to act as a resource and artistic consultant for the client. The client focused philosophy at MAC has proven to contribute largely to the success of MAC Cosmetics in both client and employee loyalty. MAC Cosmetics retail staff turnover has historically been around only 7% as a result of the high demand for employment.

Here are some things to keep in mind when purchasing MAC makeup:

  • MAC has a special recycling program to encourage customers and clients to bring in their used makeup containers for recycling. This "Back to MAC" program allows customers to bring in 6 containers to any MAC Store or MAC Counter. In exchange, the customer receives one free MAC Lipstick of their choice.

  • MAC Gift cards are redeemable only at actual MAC stores. If you want a gift card that is redeemable at a MAC Counter, you should just get a gift card to the department store where the

    MAC Counter is located.

  • MAC Cosmetics offers the MAC Pro and MAC Pro Student programs to provide support to Makeup Artists and Makeup Artists in training. Certified Makeup Artists are eligible to apply. If selected to become a member, Artists enjoy the benefits of special MAC previews, makeup master classes, product discounts, and special events.

MAC Cosmetics continues to be client focused and to offer their customers more than other cosmetics companies with overall client service as well as superior products and selection. As a result, MAC’s popularity is continuing to grow, and clients are continuing to rave about their products.

So Kiss and Makeup

E.L.F Haul

I purchased a few goodies from E.L.F check out my review.

Salon Effects

Yay I finally was able to get my very own Salon Effects. These are super duper easy to apply, user friendly rating 1-10 I give it an 9 as I tore one of the stickers but nevertheless I love them! Just like Minx but way cheaper!

New Years Beauty Resolutions

This past year I had the pleasure of getting more into makeup than I had before. I also vowed to learn how to do the perfect mani's, nail art designs and try new eyeshadow combos with the hopes of doing my very own bridal makeup in August. Check out one of my favorite makeup channels by Michelle Phan and watch her great tips.

Oh you Fancy huh?

Um I wanna be fancy too Sally Hansen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What's up with your salon effects not being available in GA. I went to CVS twice, Walgreens, Walmart, Sephora, Ulta and drumroll.............STILL NOTHING. They are even advertised in the CVS circular this week. I think for my pain and suffering you owe me a couple boxes of Salon Effects. I mean a sistah was burning up gas looking for this like it was crack or something. lol OK so in case you are santa or anyone else wants to gift me some I would love the following prints, glitter (the one on the left), cheetah of course, houndstooth, and um let's see I think that's it for right now * side eye *

Seriously I know if you live in NYC you have tried this right? These are similar to the uber expensive Minx nails. I purchased the Minx mani back when it first emerged for $55 USD and it only lasted about 2.5 weeks, NOT the month the sales woman promised smh Anyway these are about 10 bucks and they come in so many cute prints, how can you not at least give em a try. Watch the vid below as Tia explains how cute and easy they are to apply.

"Love of Beauty is Taste, Creation of Beauty is Art" Ralph Emerson

When I first started wearing lipstick back in highschool I always leaned towards the ruby red colors. Perhaps this was because my mother often wore red/rose shades herself. I never understood the importance of lip liner though until recently as I always assumed you just had to wear one with the other. Plus seeing some of the girls in highschool wearing the dark lip liner with MAC's lipglass made me almost want to swear it off all together smh

Lip liner often comes in a waxy texture and has the job of holding your lipstick in place preventing it from feathering onto your skin. If you choose a shade one brighter than your lipstick color it will also help your lips pop! Also placing some concealer around your lips after application helps the color come alive as well.
