Knees & Elbows

When I was younger I was quite the tomboy always running behind my brother, playing man hunt, climbing trees and killing bugs lol Now that I'm all grown up I am still reminded of some of those bouts with danger via my scars. Nothing makes me cringe more than being all dolled up in a skirt or dress to only see those dark knees peeking out below. Ugggh Many women face the issue of dark knees and elbows and in turn use chemical bleaching agents to lighten their skin. If you want the same effect but not the chemical cost and damage to your skin you can use a natural home remedy.

Read below for the deets:

  • Exfoliate the skin regularly, especially in case of dark elbows and knees. There are several mild, but effective scrubs that are easily available at most stores, which could be effectively used to get rid of the dead skin cells, which is one of the main causes of darkening skin.

  • Lemon Juice contains natural bleaching properties, but is much gentler on the skin than bleach is. Dip a piece of cotton in fresh lemon juice and rub it gently on the knees and elbows. Allow the juice to stay on the skin for at least 15 to 20 minutes, before rinsing it off. To maximize the effect of this exercise, repeat it couple of times a day.

  • Hydrogen peroxide has excellent bleaching properties too and can help cure discoloration, making it one of the most effective home remedies for dark elbows. This is why it is used in several commercial whitening products too. Dip a cotton ball in hydrogen peroxide and apply it to the knees and elbows. Repeat this exercise a couple of times a day, to enhance its effectiveness.

Apart from using home remedies for dark elbows and knees, it is also important to stay away from the rays of the sun, especially during the peak hours. The use of a strong SPF would help protect the skin and can further help lighten dark elbows and knees.
