little things add up

Today while walking on the Cheatham Hill loop I overheard two women ranting and relenting about exercising. The louder of the two must have said the word 'can't' about 20 times going up the hill about why she still looks the way she does. The reason why she is probably fighting SO hard and feels jaded about exercise is definitely her attitude. It's the little things you do that add up to BIG results and the first place to change is YOUR MINDSET. If you have a self defeating attitude about achieving a goal of course you are going to feel like it is 1 million miles away and you are swimming in quicksand. If she used 'The Secret' and changed her mindset those pounds would magically appear to fall off, not because of 'magic' per se but because she would start doing better because she felt better about the cause.

Physical activity can be fun! I personally prefer to exercise outdoors because I enjoy the wilderness and the rugged terrain definitely helps me burn more calories. I don't see it as a chore while jogging along the trail, listening to the birds, watching squirrels scurry up the tree and smelling the scents of nature. If running in the dirt is not your cup of tea you can try things like: dancing, skating, rollerblading, yoga, playing a sport, cycling, swimming or joining a group fitness class.

I have been working out alone for a long time now and while I do enjoy being by myself it is quite fun having a pal or two along for the walk. If one is more physically fit than the others that person is naturally challenging the others to keep up. It's a win win situation. If you are the type that needs group encouragement join a local meet up fitness group. I belong to one for the Marietta/Kennesaw area. Do you lead a busy life and feel as though you don't have TIME for fitness, well guess again. Everyone has time and should make time for physical health.

Try parking farthest away from your work building and walking a few extra steps.

Try taking the stairs at lunch instead of the elevator.

Try getting off the bus or train one stop earlier and walking the rest of the way home. It's nice weather out, why not? '0)

Try walking the total distance of the mall while shopping. This is a good practice even if you're not shopping. Just steer clear of all those alluring sale signs lol

Put a reminder in your smart phone to work out in the morning before work or right after before you get side tracked by your favorite show coming on or that invitation for happy hour drinks.

Make fitness a priority and your body will love you for it!
