The Source

I did a vlog last weekend about this topic of conversation and ended up deleting it because I was left up to my own devices when it came to editing it so let's just say Jason will be filming it again for my Youtube channel ☺. Anywhoo I wanted to write a post about it here because I think it is vital to those that may become susceptible to believing everything the see and hear on the world wide web.

Many sources of information are available on the web ranging from How to lay hardwood floors, how to do a smokey eye makeup look to how to walk in high heels. Millions upon millions of people log onto Youtube everyday to learn how to do something even if it's only for pure entertainment they are captivated by someone's video. When you log on and watch a video you are allowing that person into your zone and into your head. Some of these channel authors you can grow to love and even trust given their track record and history of dishing out useful and qualified information BUT do you ever really know if the author is credible? This is quite concerning for me when it comes to relationship guru's and self proclaimed experts. Let's take Steve Harvey for example. He has gotten a lot of slack and backlashing regarding being a self proclaimed expert when it comes to relationships. Many feel as though he has no earthly business telling women how to act, think or get a man period, ESPECIALLY since he is a divorcee 3 times over. Who wants to get marital advice from someone who couldn't do it right themselves? He was also quite a public figure when he did decide to write his book, Act like a Lady Think like a Man, but what if he was just some average joe and you had no idea this man had been divorced 3 times. You saw his advice as credible based off of his delivery and took it to heart implementing this new 'secret' to finally being happy and getting your man? Then to only find out he wasn't credible and is not living the life he is encouraging you to. How would that make you feel, would it change your perspective on him as a guru or would you not mind at all? Now while you can learn a thing or three from a divorcee in terms of How not to F@ck up your marriage you just may take their advice with a grain of salt. Of course people are always experts in hindsight because if they really knew anything about relationships they'd still be in a loving one ☺ Right? I'm just saying....

I personally follow over 50 people on YT ranging from home improvement channels to makeup to life style vloggers including relationship 'gurus'. The relationship channels come and go with my interest because sometimes I just simply feel like people are FOS (full of shit) and my discernment is usually on point! I said all that to say this "Don't believe the hype!" when it comes to every person that comes across your screen. This woman or man might give great common sense advice, they might even be a 24 hour certified life coach educated at the finest fly by night internet university but the real important thing is this "If you are giving advice, are you living it?" Chances are probably NOT, in some instances!

Plenty of people see YT as a chance to be seen and make it big. A lot of regular folks have turned celebs (Soulja Boi and Justin Beiber just to name a few) by way of YT exposure. It is a great avenue to be seen and heard, just make sure the person you are glued to and captivated by is all that you believe them to be and more. I'd hate for you to be investing so much time watching and listening to someone's coaching, advice or videos on life and they are just simply full of hot air. ☺ Lastly we are all human and fallible so don't expect any one to be perfect but do expect them to be who they say they are ♥
